We are currently looking for new students for 2020 Summer program at the Tomoe Butoh Basic I Course. If you are interested in learning the Tomoe Butoh Method, or want to expand the range of art activities, or if you are active in the field of performing arts such as drama or dance and are thinking about self-improvement in physical expression, please energetically apply.

Outline of the course:
BUTOH - Japan’s original modern stage art. We will provide an opportunity of experiencing TOMOE BUTOH method to learn a comprehensive creative method of Butoh. TOMOE BUTOH method is investigating a universal body expression art based on technique of Butoh. That has been developed as the way to catch a possibility of the expression of a body again from the relation with "consciousness of a body" and "the (stage) environment" and make them fully enjoy the individuality of the artist/the performer fully.
We believe that this opportunity will promote creative activities of artists, and contribute to the development of the techniques for creative physical expressions including dance and stage drama.

Goal of the course: |

Not only learning about the concept of the Butoh art, you will enrich your own creative activities and enhance the physical expression technique that is useful for your own stage activities. And, you will experience the actual choreography and create the art.

Experience Workshop is Basically 1 lesson (45minutes) in the 12 credits (1 unit 90 minutes) of the basic course.
- Experience about the basics of physical expression techniques of Butoh
- Application to practice through its techniques
(Course content will be planned based on each student's purpose)

This program will be implemented in accordance with the thought and improvement of the participants' own creative activities and exploration of the possibilities of art expression, as well as physical expression techniques in their physical expression and stage art activities. We will select those who match this purpose.
- Those who have watched the stage or video works (DVD, etc.) of Tomoe Shizune and Hakutobo. (If you are first visitor, please see here. DVD works are here. )
- Those who want to explore the possibilities of creative activities and art expression
- Those who want to develop and improve their expression activities in the fields of physical expression and stage art, such as dance and theater of other genres.
- Those who want to learn Butoh seriously, in sympathy with Tomoe Butoh
* This program is not intended for comparative studies of Butoh.
* Please understand that those who have participated in or are participating in Butoh workshops of other butoh artists or dance companies, or those who are willing to participate in them in the future will not be able to apply.
